... falling in love with the beauty of the region, its climate and wonderful conditions to grow stunning Pinot Noir was the main reason why we established our second Estate on the absolutely opposite side of the world. Yes Karl Johner, his wife Irene and his son Patrick have a well known winery in Germany where they were one of the first to adapt a quality regime and focus on great burgundy style wines. With the vision in mind to also create great Pinot Noir in New Zealand, the focus of the wines is not set to upfront fruit. We just love complexity. Wines that reveal new delicate flavours while drinking, show great depth and a lingering finish.
Talking to Sommeliers and Chefs from high class German Restaurants helps us find out what aspects and styles pair well with food and tell us that an elegant style is needed to keep enjoying and not satiate after one glass.
Maybe this is the reason, why we don't stand out in competitions, because our wines never impact with a punch.
People who have been introduced to our wines just get addicted to them and beeing different is a great virtue...

We are absolutely excited to have won the Consumers Choice Trophy at the Wine New Zealand show in Auckland held from 29th August to 2nd of November.

... as great Pinot Noir lovers and winegrowers, we have one of the most famous winery estates in Germany well known by the circle of experts.
When travelling the world, looking at the Pinot Noir we encountered New Zealand for the first time. The landscape felt quite familiar, but what even fascinated us more was the Pinot Noir. The "Cool Climate" conditions are perfekt and there's a booming spirit.
After searching some time, we finally found some land, along the Ruamahanga River in the Wairarapa.
Together with our neighbour Beaven, we have planted 8 hectares of Pinot Noir, three hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and one hectare of ten different varietis ranging from Chardonnay to Syrah.
Bearing in mind that it takes years to establish a crop, we were able to buy some grapes and vinify our first "New Zealand" Pinot Noir in 2001

I hope we can share the beauty of the wines and the country with you.
